Samsung Galaxy Book2 Go with Snapdragon Without NPU Runs Windows Recall
Leaker Albacore, known for revealing Windows beta updates, managed to run Windows Recall on a Galaxy Book2 Go. This laptop uses a Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3, which lacks a neural processing unit (NPU), even though Microsoft has stated that an NPU is mandatory to run Recall. This feature uses artificial intelligence to view the user’s screen and assist in searching for information.
Windows Recall and the New Generation of AI PCs
Windows Recall is one of the first tools to introduce the concept of AI PCs, Windows computers developed from the ground up for artificial intelligence tasks. These PCs are known as Copilot+ and must meet the following specifications to qualify:
- 16 GB of RAM
- 256 GB SSD storage
- NPU
- Notch-free screen for webcam
- Copilot button on the keyboard
Galaxy Book2 Go: A Surprise in the Copilot+ Concept
The Galaxy Book2 Go used by Albacore has only 4 GB of RAM and, as mentioned, no NPU. In his X/Twitter post, Albacore stated that he would provide a tutorial on how to install Windows Recall on “incompatible” PCs.
According to Albacore, Windows Recall ran without issues on the Galaxy Book2 Go, which was launched by Samsung in 2023. Equipped with the Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3, featuring eight cores and a maximum frequency of 2.4 GHz, the laptop proved capable of running the tool.
Controversy in the Adaptation Video
The video showing the process of adapting Windows Recall for the Galaxy Book2 Go caused controversy. Some people believed that the visible stuttering in the footage was due to running on an old chip. However, Albacore clarified that the stuttering was due to the recording system, which used a remote session to capture the footage.
Compatibility with AMD and Intel Processors
Albacore also stated that his test suggests the possibility of installing Windows Recall on AMD and Intel processors without NPUs. This paves the way for broader compatibility of the tool with different hardware, challenging the specifications initially set by Microsoft.
