Microsoft Introduces “Copilot Plus PCs”

Microsoft Introduces Copilot Plus PCs

Microsoft has launched the “Copilot Plus PCs” label, highlighting the requirements for new AI-equipped notebooks that will soon be available.

Next Generation of AI Notebooks

The company announced a new line of notebooks that will come with the “Copilot Plus PCs” label, indicating devices with hardware ready to support AI features. These notebooks will also have direct manufacturer support to optimize the use of these technologies.

Partnerships with Major Manufacturers

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed that the company is collaborating with several renowned manufacturers, including Dell, HP, ASUS, Acer, Lenovo, and Samsung, to implement this new standard of notebooks.

Key Features of “Copilot Plus PCs”

One of the highlights of this new line of notebooks is the “Recall” feature. This function allows the AI to create a searchable “photographic memory” of all activities performed on the PC. These devices will come equipped with more than 40 language models integrated into Windows 11 to support these advanced functionalities.

Additionally, the current Copilot will receive support for OpenAI’s recently introduced GPT-4 model, promising to further enhance interaction with technology.

Specifications of “Copilot Plus PCs”

To be part of the “Copilot Plus PCs” initiative, notebooks will need to meet a series of stringent specifications:

  • Processor with integrated NPU
  • SSD with at least 256GB of storage
  • Minimum of 16GB of RAM

Models with Qualcomm chips, based on Arm, will have a battery life of up to 15 hours of web browsing.

Performance and Comparisons

Yusuf Mehdi, the executive responsible for Windows, stated that these new notebooks with the Microsoft label will be “58% faster” than a MacBook Air with an M3 processor. However, it was not specified whether this comparison applies to the new Arm-based Surface or all “Copilot Plus PCs” notebooks.

Market Expectations

Microsoft expects that by the end of 2025, 50 million units of notebooks with the “Copilot Plus PCs” label will be sold.
